Namibia

Hunting Namibia is one of the most exciting safaris in Southwest Africa.

Once the German colony of Southwest Africa, Namibia is a paradise for plains game hunters and dangerous game hunters alike.  Low safari fees, and organized outfitters make this a great destination for both the first time African hunter and the seasoned pro.  The country is probably the most travel friendly destination on the continent for the African hunter looking for a hassle free hunting safari.  We work with several of the top professional hunters in Namibia and boast over 2 million acres of various hunting concessions and game reserves where the animals are indigenous and the best trophies are found.  These areas comprise mostly of bush-covered plains to rolling hills.  Dangerous game is hunted in the famous Caprivi Strip where trophy quality elephant, buffalo and lion are available.   Namibia is an ideal destination for hunters who would like to experience the optimal dangerous game hunting in the Caprivi Strip combined with the high game populations and specie diversity commonly found on the private game reserves.

History and Description of Namibia:
South Africa occupied the German colony of South-West Africa during World War I and administered it as a mandate until after World War II, when it annexed the territory. In 1966 the Marxist South-West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO) guerrilla group launched a war of independence for the area that was soon named Namibia, but it was not until 1988 that South Africa agreed to end its administration in accordance with a UN peace plan for the entire region. Namibia won its independence in 1990 and has been governed by SWAPO since. Hifikepunye POHAMBA was elected president in November 2004 in a landslide victory replacing Sam NUJOMA who led the country during its first 14 years of self rule.

We have three primary safari outfitters we work with in Namibia- Panorama Hunting Safaris, Makadi Safaris and Aloe Safaris. Panorama Hunting Safaris Panorama Hunting Lodge is a hunting reservefarm established in 1978 with a Three Star  rating. Your host is the family Rusch, one of the oldest families in the country. Our concession measures 25 000 ha and is situated 30km south-west of Windhoek, the capital of the Republic of Namibia. The hunting concession is part of the Auas-Oanob conservancy which comprises nearly 100 000 ha. Panorama is a small establishment with a personal and exclusive touch. Our aim is to offer an individual service, thus we only host one party at a time. Our concession includes a variety of biotopes and presently proudly offers some twenty species of plains game to hunt, with highlights such as Roan, Sable and black-faced Impala. Our guests are accommodated in comfortable rooms with en-suite bath, shower, toilets and 220V electricity. You will find an outside bar with a rustic lapa and 'braai' and an unconventional swimming pool to cool off after the hunt. For the long cold winter evenings you are hosted in our heated inside bar. You are offered a typical German- Namibian cuisine - juicy Namibian beef and delicious venison dishes, served with own-grown vegetables and complemented with sophisticated desserts. The name Panorama was derived from the magnificent scenery and picturesque sunsets that are traditionally viewed from special spots on top of mountains, while enjoying cheese and wine. A most clear and beautiful view of the surrounding area to the west and the vast Namibian night-sky dotted with stars are unique to the country. Why Panorama Hunting Ranch ?

Hunting Season The hunting season in Namibia runs from February thru the end of November. Safari Areas There are four primary hunting regions in Namibia.  The southern region of the country is dominated by the Kalahari Desert.  The central region of the country is much less arid than the Kalahari and is home to a good majority of the private hunting reserves- most of these are within a 2 to 3 hour drive of the capital city, Windhoek.  The northern region also has some very good opportunities on many of the private farms and game ranches in the general vicinity of the famous Etosha National Park.  The fourth region of Namibia is the Caprivi Strip where most of the Elephant, Lion and Cape Buffalo Safaris are conducted. Safari Camps Most of the hunting safari camps in Namibia have a very colonial German influence.  They usually consist of a lodge style camp with private rooms for the hunting clients, a general boma area (or dining/bar facility) and an outdoor entertaining area complete with a large fire pit.  The safari camps are very clean, neat and quite luxurious, but not similar to the classic safari tented style camps found in other countries.  The German influence is quite heavy in everything from the cuisine to the hunting culture. Hunting Methods The safari hunting in Namibia is principally oriented on trancking and stalking of the game.  Vehicles are used to cover the huge reserves, but once game or game sign is seen, hunts progress on foot.
