Cameroon
The central African country of Cameroon supports a wide variety and abundance of trophy animals available to discriminating sportsman. The safari hunting in Cameroon is generally classified by the two prominent habitats- the woodland savannah and the equatorial rain forest. The forest area safaris concentrate on species like the elusive Bongo, Dwarf Forest Buffalo, Sitatunga and several other species. The savannah safari areas in Cameroon focus on the Lord Derby Eland, or Giant Eland, Northwestern Buffalo, Western Roan, Lion, Giant Topi, Sing-Sing Waterbuck, and many other species.
Hunting in Cameroon is not the typical African safari experience. These hunting safaris are for trophy hunters looking to hunt some of the rarest species in Africa while at the same time enjoying a very unique and cultural hunting experience. These are highly specialized hunting safaris and are only recommended for the experienced African hunter.

The former French Cameroon and part of British Cameroon merged in 1961 to form the present country. Cameroon has generally enjoyed stability, which has permitted the development of agriculture, roads, and railways, as well as a petroleum industry. Despite a slow movement toward democratic reform, political power remains firmly in the hands of an ethnic oligarchy headed by President Paul BIYA.

Anti-poaching and community - development program: in order to support an effective anti-poaching campaign, as well as advocating the value of the wildlife to the villagers adjacent and within our hunting blocks, a fee of 10% of the above trophy fees will be collected from the hunters to fund these projects under our direct supervision. We have implemented these programs an all of our hunting areas, and have found that the results of direct funding for these necessary programs has been extremely beneficial in the overall quality of the hunting available to our clientele. These fees are paid at the conclusion of the safari, based on final trophy fee numbers.
Note: Government fees might be modified (increased) without prior notice. The outfitter can not be held responsible for any such modification.
Cameroon - Additional Information
Hunting Season Forest Safaris - from mid March until the end of July Savannah Safaris - from December until the end of May Safari Hunting Areas Our Lord Derby Eland, or Savannah Safaris, are offered in one of 5 different safari camps run by our safari outfitter. The Mayo Oldiri safari area is located between the two national parks Bouba Njida and La Benoue. In 1999 the Mayo Nduell camp was reopened, and in 2001 the third area named Mayo Vaimba was opened. These areas are noted for having excellent populations of trophy Lord Derby Eland early in the hunting season. In 2005 the Rey Bouba savannah camp, and the Djibao safari area located on the eastern border of the Bouba Ndjida Naitonal park were opened. Having the 5 different camps allows our clients the best opportunities in Northern Cameroon with at least double the quota of any other company. The Bongo or Forest Safaris are offered in one of our outfitter’s four different safari hunting concessions. In 2000 they acquired the virgin forest area concession “the Boumba." This safari concession has an excellent Bongo population with extreme trophy quality for the serious safari collector. This safari concession accounts for 40% of the total Cameroon quota for Dwarf Buffalo and Forest Sitatunga granted by the government. In 2002 our outfitter opened the Lognia camp located on the border right across from the Congo and the Central African Republic, adjacent to the Lobeke National Park. In 2004 the third forest safari area was opened near the Dja National Park. This is an area that was completely virgin and was never before hunted. This area is extremely difficult to hunt, but produces excellent Sitatunga. In 2005 they opened their 4th safari area called "Ndama". During March thru July it is common to have a 2 or 3 hour rain every day. This wets the ground allowing the pygmy guides and professional hunters to follow the Bongo tracks. Safari Camps There is a variety of different styles of safari camps in Cameroon ranging from tented-fly camps in the most remote areas, to permanent rondavals or wooden chalets with thatched roofs and en suite bathrooms. Hunting Methods and Conditions The safari hunting methods in Cameroon are dictated by which habitat you are hunting. In the forest areas most of the hunting is done on foot. Pygmy hunters track the bongo in the dense forest with the assistance of dogs which generally bay the antelope. Machans, or elevated hunting platforms are also used in the forest openings primarily for sitatunga and other species. Hunting in the savanna for the Lord Derby Eland safaris utilizes vehicles to cover the vast hunting concessions, and then classic tracking and stalking leads the hunter to his desired trophy.
